How to Wear Statement Jewelry
Accessories are the best tools to curate your style. You can complete, transform and personalize any outfit with the right combination of accessories. It can take an outfit from day to night and everything in between.
When you are looking to refresh your wardrobe and up your style, accessories are the first things that come to mind. Not just any kind of accessories but statement accessories up the ante! They help you make a statement (obviously!). Statement jewelry does not necessarily have to be big or bold, but at the minimum, be unique and something you absolutely love.
If you are not sure where to start with a wardrobe refresh or curating your personal style, jewelry is the perfect place. It allows you take baby steps, that are inexpensive and easily reversible.
There are so many ways to wear them and I have put together a simple downloadable guide to using them to achieve an effortless and put together look every single time.
THERE ARE 2 MAIN TECHNIQUES TO WEARING JEWELRY:
1. As a show stopper:
This is when your jewelry e.g. necklace, earrings etc is the focal point of your outfit. It can also be a great ice breaker and a nice conversational piece. This can be accomplished in a number of ways:
The Little Black Dress:
This is a classic but sometimes you just need to add some personality to your all black ensemble. What else can accomplish that better than a statement bejeweled necklace or earrings? The options are endless.
The combination of black and white is also another classic that never goes out of style. For me and my love of all things colour, I use accessories to make my monochromes more personalized. With this technique you just can't go wrong.
The All White or Neutral (also called monochrome):
A current trend of wearing different shades of the same colour is also called a monochrome. What better way to make a statement than to add a beautiful necklace to a nude coloured or all white ensemble.
Statement jewelry just adds that extra oomph. It can be as simple as a cuff bracelet or as bold as red beads. The important thing is to pick contrasting colours to make it stand out.
The Casual Outfit:
On those days when you feel no inspiration and all you want to do is throw on your comfiest pair of jeans and a tee, one of the best ways to still step out looking fabulous is throwing on a beautiful statement necklace. You will look effortlessly put together.
2. As a Colour Complement or Contrast
Colour complementing and contrasting are especially handy when you have a bright and bold coloured or a multi-coloured outfit that puts you at a loss of what jewelry to wear. There are 2 main ways to accomplish this:
This is done by picking one colour from the multitude of colours on your outfit. Don't be too concerned about being too "matchy-matchy". You can reduce or avoid that by picking a jewelry in the same colour but a different shade. But all the same loving what you choose and being confident in it, is all that matters.
This is where you pick an accessory colour that directly contrasts with your outfit but doesn't clash. An example is wearing a brown belt on a black dress. I'm sure you've seen people combine black and brown, that looked good. At some point in fashion history, this was considered a faux pas, but now not so much.
I have combined both ideas below, the blue in the earrings pick-up the blue in the beautiful lace dress. The pearl bracelet is a contrasting colour against the dress and compliments the earrings without being "matchy-matchy".
Wearing statement accessories doesn't come naturally to everyone. With the attached pdf guide and a little bit of practice, you may even begin feel a little naked when you are not wearing them and as a huge bonus even feel a boost in your confidence!
I have a included a downloadable guide to help on your style journey. It also includes a bonus necklace neckline guide.
